Lenček, Rado L. (1921–2005)

Lenček (Lencek) Rado L., slavist, etnograf, jezikoslovec, univ. prof., r. 3. okt. 1921 na Mirni na Dolenjskem, živi v New Yorku (ZDA). Oče Ludvik, doma iz Studenca pri Planini na Notranjskem, orožniški podoficir, od 1935 uradnik elektropodjetja Novobor v Novem mestu, mati Katarina Jakša iz Semiča v Beli krajini. Osn. š. obiskoval v Črnomlju (1927–32), gimn. v Novem mestu (1932–40). Slavistiko in etnografijo študiral na U v Lj. (1940–44), slovansko filologijo pri Art. Croniji na U v Padovi (1944–46), moderno lingvistiko na University Of Chicago v ZDA (1958–59), slovansko jezikoslovje pri Romanu Jakobsonu, Horacu G. Luntu in Albertu B. Lordu na Harvard Univ. v Cambridgeju, Mass. (1959–62). Diplome: Univ. of Chicago, M. A. 1959; Harvard Univ., doktorat 1962. Štipendist American Council of Learned Societes in International Research and Exchanges Board za raziskovalno delo v Jsli in Bol. (1962, 1971, 1972, 1975), National Science Foundation (1974, 1979), U. S. Department of Education (1978); v 1969 na znanstvenem raziskovalnem delu pri Sovjetski Akademiji znanosti in umetnosti v Leningradu in Moskvi. – Od 1944–55 je poučeval na slov. sred. šolah v Gor. in Trstu; 1949–56 je bil zunanji sodelavec pri RAITrstA; 1951–54 časnikar in ur. Kulturnih vesti pri United States Information Service (USIS) v Trstu. 1956 se je preselil v ZDA. Od 1962–65 docent za slovan. jezike in književnosti na U of Illinois (Urbana, IH.); od 1965–69 docent, od 1969–74 izredni prof., od 1974 dalje redni prof. slovan. jezikov in kultur na Columbia U v New Yorku in koordinator njenega programa za študij slovanskih kultur. Od 1969–72 gostujoči prof. na New York U, 1974 na Yale U (New Haven). – Raziskovalno znanstveno delo začel kot slavist in etnograf v letih 1940–44; v Lj. sodeloval v revijah Obisk, DS, GMDS, SU, Et, Zbornik zim. pomoči. Razširjena z obdelavo sistema glagolskega vida in z analizo produktivnosti besedotvornih razredov slov. glagola je izšla ta študija v knjigi The Verb Pattern of Contemporary Standard Slovene (Wiesbaden 1966).
